LAFAYETTE – On Tuesday April 5th at 10:30am, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, in partnership with LOPA, will host a Donate Life Flag Raising Ceremony honoring organ, tissue and eye donors. The family of LOPA hero, Christian Nelson, will share their personal journey through the world of organ donation. The event will take place in front of the hospital around the flagpole, 4801 Ambassador Caffery Parkway. LOPA flags will rise at all of the Lourdes campuses with an additional ceremony at 2pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital. At this ceremony, Justin Luna, Director of Nursing/Interim ACNO, will share a few words honoring his family’s hero – his brother, Ryan Luna. Each campus will fly the Donate Life flags the entire month of April in recognition of National Donate Life Month.
Every April, LOPA focuses statewide attention on the potential individuals have to Make Life Happen by registering their decision to be an organ, tissue and eye donor and by considering being a living donor. National Donate Life Month (NDLM) was established by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations in 2003. Observed in April each year, NDLM helps to encourage Americans to register as organ, tissue and eye donors and to honor those that have saved lives through the gift of donation.
We invite you to join us as we honor our heroes and share their incredible gifts with our community. We will have representatives available for interviews following the ceremony. If you do plan to attend, we ask that you arrive no later than 9:45am to set-up and be ready to shoot the event at 10:30am. Please contact Suzanna Morton, LOPA Community Educator, if you have any questions.
