“Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries released the latest private recreational red snapper landing estimates through June 19, 2022. LA Creel, LDWF’s near real-time landings data collection program, indicates that 225,720 pounds, or 28 percent, of Louisiana’s 2022 annual private recreational allocation of 809,315 pounds was harvested during the 2022 red snapper season.”

Unattended white-tailed deer fawns encountered in the wild should not be disturbed, according to Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Deer Program biologists. Instead, LDWF is reminding the public the best practice is to leave them alone and to remember it is against the law to capture or possess young deer or any other wild animal. In addition, a quiet departure is the best action in the case of an encounter with a fawn.

Deer typically fawn April through August in Louisiana. A fawn is most vulnerable to predators during the first few weeks of its life. Does may forage nearby, but they are sometimes out of sight to not alert predators to the fawns’ location.
