Battery Fire Suspends Ford Electric Pickup Production

Ford says assembly for the F-150 Lighting will be suspended for several weeks after a battery fire.

The automaker announced on Tuesday that production had stopped due to a potential “battery issue” after a fire occurred in a company lot in Dearborn Michigan.

A Ford spokeswoman said:

“We are not aware of any incidents of this issue in the field and do not believe F-150 Lightnings already in customers’ hands are affected by this issue.”

The F-150 Lightning is Ford’s electric battery-operated pickup.  15,617 Lightnings were delivered to customers in 2022 and an additional 2,264 in January of 2023.

General Motors suspended production of the electric Chevrolet Bolt in 2021 while it replaced the batteries in over 140,000 vehicles after a defect that could cause fires was discovered.
