Today’s Country Legend was born August 12, on a farm in Sherman, Texas; he became proficient in guitar, mandolin, horns, and drums and became a truck driver, where he first experienced and was impressed by the town of Bakersfield. He died in his sleep of an apparent heart attack at his ranch just north of Bakersfield only hours after performing at his club, the Crystal Palace. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame
