Tim DuBois, a record producer, songwriter, and industry executive, assembled the band in 1984 to record demos of songs he had written.

The lead vocalist was working in the stockrooms of the Country Music Hall of Fame and mowing lawns at the Nashville offices of BMI.

The band released 26 of their singles, including six that reached number one

One theory behind the band’s formation was that they were to record more pop-influenced songs that were rejected by Alabama.

It took the original group eight hours to vote on a name for the band and the first name that one was Heartbreak
