How to Commemorate Veterans Day

Today (11/11) is Veterans Day. You can honor vets on Veterans Day by saying "thank you," attending local parades and ceremonies, and supporting veteran-focused organizations through donations or volunteering. Other ways include treating them to a meal, sending a card or care package, supporting veteran-owned businesses, and observing a moment of silence at 11 a.m.

Polycarp Event – Novemeber 25, 2025

If you were a fan of the show, make plans to attend. I am writing a book and would like your memories and details to make it an accurate account of John Plauche's life and his show, Polycarp and his Pals. It will be held on Tuesday November 25 at the Scott Library. 6:00PM to 7:00 PM.

Polycarp (Polycarp Phillipe Pecot Number 2) was a fictional character who hosted "Polycarp and Pals," a children's show broadcast on KATC Channel 3 in Lafayette, Louisiana from the mid-1960s to early 1970s.  The character Polycarp, portrayed by John Plauché, was an avuncular Cajun figure dressed in a plaid shirt and straw hat. He lived on a houseboat in an imaginary "Anse La Butte Swamp." The show featured original skits, recurring characters (like the "Crazy Professor" and "Maurice Mostique," a giant mosquito), and classic Warner Bros. cartoons. It was a beloved part of the childhoods of many in Acadiana.
